Frequently
asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking your appointment.

Many patients are referred by their GP or another specialist, but we can often accept self-referrals. We recommend checking with your private medical insurer first, as they commonly require a GP referral before authorizing consultations or tests.

Please bring your referral letter (if you have one), a list of current medications, and any previous ECGs, scans, or cardiac test results. This helps us make your first visit as focused and productive as possible.

Where appropriate, we aim to arrange key tests on the same day to minimize additional visits. The exact plan depends on your symptoms, prior results, and clinic availability.

Palpitations describe the sensation of an unusual heartbeat (for example fluttering, racing, or skipped beats), while arrhythmia is a diagnosed abnormal heart rhythm. Not all palpitations indicate a dangerous arrhythmia, but persistent or troublesome symptoms should be assessed.

Catheter ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat abnormal heart rhythms by targeting the small areas in the heart causing the rhythm disturbance. It is performed through fine catheters inserted via blood vessels, usually in the groin.

Most patients return home the same day or the day after implant. Light activity is usually possible within a few days, but we advise avoiding heavy lifting and overhead arm movement on the implant side for several weeks while healing completes.
